A2est is a donor-aware Estonian-language learning platform built around walkthrough pedagogy, real-audio lessons, and the A2est AI tutor. The service is operated by A2est OÜ, registered in Estonia.
A2est is for adult learners of Estonian as a second language, with emphasis on residents of Estonia preparing for HARNO examinations at A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 CEFR levels.
Content is authored in Estonian. Interface translations: English, Estonian, and Russian. These Terms of Service are published in English, Estonian, and Russian.
We aim for 99% monthly uptime on lesson and tutor surfaces. Scheduled maintenance windows are announced 48 hours in advance via the dashboard.
The A2est Dictionary is included at no additional charge with any unlocked course band, and with organisation or program allocations. Lookups we can serve from data we already hold do not consume credits. A word or sentence that is not yet in our lexicon requires an advanced lookup, which consumes wallet credits.
Dictionary output - definitions, translations, grammatical analysis and example sentences - is provided on a best-effort basis. Source entries come from EkiLex; explanations, English glosses and example sentences are produced by A2est. We do not warrant that any entry is accurate, complete, or suitable for examination preparation, translation, or any other purpose, and you should verify anything you rely on.
Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights under Estonian consumer law (see §2.6).
A2est offers course packages across the CEFR ladder (A1, A2, B1, B2,
C1, C2). Current tier names and prices are listed on /pricing. Each
package is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase ("TTL").
When the account holder upgrades to a higher CEFR tier, the list price of the highest tier they already own is credited toward the new tier's price and they pay only the difference. Climbing the ladder never costs more in total than buying the highest tier outright. The new package begins a fresh 12-month TTL on the upgrade date.
After a package expires, the account holder may renew at the same tier:
Earned A2est AI tutor time credits (e.g. from refer-a-friend) are bound to the package from which they were earned. They expire 30 days after the underlying package expires. If no paid package has been on the account in the last 12 months, all earned credits expire.
Course packages qualify for a full refund within 14 days of the
date of purchase when less than 30 percent of that band's lessons
are completed on your account. Wallet top-ups are refundable for the
unused credit balance; consumed credit is not refundable (§2.7.3).
Refunds void earned referral credits from that purchase. Details and
how to ask: /refund-policy.
Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights under the Estonian Law of Obligations Act (Võlaõigusseadus) §53 et seq., including the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts.
A2est offers A2est AI tutor credit packs ("Top-Up Packs") for purchase by individual learners, team administrators, and government program administrators. All Top-Up Pack purchases use the same per-credit rate; volume discounts are expressed as larger pack sizes, not as variable per-credit pricing.
Current pricing is listed on /wallet and /pricing. Prices may be
updated; existing checkouts honor the price displayed at checkout start.
All Top-Up Pack purchases credit the purchaser's wallet (for individual learners) or the recipient's wallet (for team and program allocations). One wallet per user. Purchases, package credits, team allocations, program allocations, referral credits, and admin grants are recorded in a single auditable ledger.
Wallet credit meters extras beyond the active Pass syllabus: AI tutor conversation (chat and library reading tutors), Dictionary Explain base fees for word and saying lookups, Dictionary unrecognized-sentence lookups (first access covers lookup cost; later access by other users is billed at half of that stored cost; the same user is not charged twice for the same sentence; empty wallet blocks until top-up), and occasional Dictionary advanced-query surcharges when a missing English gloss requires a model fill (that gloss path may be absorbed by A2est when the wallet is empty). Syllabus lessons stay unmetered while the Pass is active. Consumed credits are non-refundable (see §2.7.3). There is no per-query charge toast; this standing agreement is the notice.
Top-Up Packs are eligible for the same 14-day refund window as package purchases (per §2.5). Refund amount equals the unused credit balance at the time of refund request. Consumed credits are non-refundable. Refunds void any referral credits earned on the refunded purchase.
Team and program administrators may allocate credits to members from their team-pool or program-pool wallet. Allocations are recorded in the audit log with the administrator user, recipient, amount, and timestamp. Administrators cannot allocate credits from their personal wallet.
Top-Up Packs are offered in v0 pending review by Estonian legal counsel. Final pricing and refund terms may differ. Credits purchased during the v0 period remain valid under the terms in effect at the time of purchase.
A2est operates a voluntary refer-a-friend program ("the Program"). By participating, you acknowledge and accept the following terms.
The reward for a qualifying share is A2est AI tutor time, denominated in minutes, credited to your A2est account. The Program does NOT issue cash, refunds, or any form of monetary compensation.
Thank-you credits are bound to the package from which they were earned (or, for users without a paid package, the most recent paid package on the account). Credits expire 30 days after the underlying package expires. Refer to §2 for package TTL rules.

Added 2026-06-27. This section governs the BYOK feature on the Account page and the platform-wide response-cache mechanism.
A2est allows you to paste your own Google AI Studio Gemini API key into your Account page. When a BYOK key is active, your AI tutor sessions (AI tutor and the cultural-persona chat) are billed to your own Google AI Studio quota instead of to A2est credits.
BYOK is restricted to paid-tier Google AI Studio API keys. Free-tier keys (including any aistudio.google.com key on Google's free allowance) are rejected on paste with an error message pointing to Google AI Studio's paid plan. A2est validates paid-tier status by a lightweight check call to Google at key-paste time and re-validates periodically.
Using a free-tier Google AI Studio key through A2est's BYOK feature is a violation of Google's customer-side Terms of Service. A2est is not Google's enforcer for free-tier abuse; that is between Google and their own customer.
However, A2est's contractual position with you is:
A2est's BYOK proxy architecture routes your requests through our
server-side gateway and writes every response to our platform-wide
persona_reply_cache. This is what lets us offer fast, consistent
replies and what makes the cultural-persona chat affordable at scale.
That architecture is built on the assumption that the underlying API
calls are paid-tier calls; the entire unit economics depends on it.
We want to demonstrate to Google that we are firm on enforcing respect for their terms with our customers. If you do dodgy shit after we explain what and why you must not, you are being fraudulent and you pay the price.
When you use the AI tutor, the persona's reply (text and audio) is
banked in our persona_reply_cache, keyed by persona, persona-prompt
version, target language, and the persona's reply text. Subsequent
identical requests (from you or other learners, free or paid) are
served from cache at near-zero cost. This is how we keep our credit
prices stable as the platform grows.
What is NOT cached: your input messages, your account identifier, any personal data, any conversation history beyond the immediate persona turn.
What IS cached: persona output only. The persona reply to "How do I say X?" is reusable; the message that prompted it is not.
Cache rows contain no learner personal data. They are persona output under our authorship, served back to learners as part of the service. GDPR data subject rights (export, deletion) apply to your account data, learning data, and conversation history; they do not give you the right to delete cache rows that other learners may be relying on for fast replies.
BYOK keys are stored encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM with a key-encryption-key separate from the application database). The key is never displayed back to you in plaintext after paste. You may delete your key at any time; deletion is full and immediate. Audit log records who used which key and when, retained per §1.4.
A2est collects the minimum data needed to operate the service. Full
